About the School

In the year 1968, the dream of the Catigbianons became real. The first secondary school came into existence. It was realized through the efforts and initiative of Rev. Fr. Andres Osorio, the dedicated Parish Priest, the Centro Catolico (now Parish Pastoral Council, PPC) with the municipal officials and with the help of some enthusiastic civic and religious organizations.

The school was named Carmel Academy for two years as an extension of Carmel Academy in Balilihan, Bohol. Then changed to Immaculate Mary Academy after SEC Registration approval in 1970. The name Immaculate Mary Academy is taken from the Patron Saint of the Catigbian Parish the “Immaculate Conception”. The school acquired Government Recognition effective June 02, 1975. The school has 3,250 square meters track of donated land by the church (within church site). It is located at Poblacion Weste, Catigbian, Bohol and is situated beside the Church along the National Highway and is accessible to any transportation. Now, IMA bears more fruits to the ambit of competent professionals.

Philosophy of Education

Immaculate Mary Academy is a Catholic school established by the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Tagbilaran to provide Catholic secondary education to as many students as possible who reside within the town of Catigbian and the neighboring towns. Christian humanism, the development of the whole man, is both the basis and the pervading force of the total educational program and provides the framework in which the students develop a unique values system. But this development must prepare the students to effectively discharge his role as a fully functional citizen in the development process of the nation, technological development being one of them.

Immaculate Mary Academy as a Catholic school is dedicated to the Mother of God. This dedication turns our thoughts to the tabernacle wherein God is ever present in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

It is through Our Blessed Mother’s unity of mind and will with the mind of God that the Sacred Humanity is present among us.

Mary is God’s Mother. She is our mother. May our lives be an imitation of hers. As it has been our privilege to dedicate our school to her may it be our yearning to dedicate our lives to God through her. May we be ever mindful that her Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ dwells with us because She who is “our life, our sweetness and our hope,” in faith and love spoke the words, “Fiat mihi secundum Verbum Tuum; Let it be done unto me

according to Thy Word.”
